The inauguration of the Earthshot Boulevard in downtown Rio de Janeiro today marks the beginning of a series of events leading up to The Earthshot Prize Awards Night 2025, to be held on 5 November at the iconic Museum of Tomorrow.
Led by the Eleven Eleven Foundation in partnership with The Earthshot Prize – the world’s most prestigious and impactful environmental award – Earthshot Boulevard will transform the stretch from the Museum of Tomorrow to Pier 3, the site of the Earthshot Summit in the heart of Rio, into a vibrant hub for public engagement and climate action.
From 2 November, Rio will become Earthshot City, with branded airport signage, flags lining key routes, and immersive art and performances throughout the city.
Cool Globes exhibition on Earthshot Boulevard
A key highlight will be Cool Globes – a visionary public art initiative conceived by Wendy Abrams, Founder of the Eleven Eleven Foundation. Cool Globes feature large globe-shaped sculptures created by different artists to bring bold climate solutions to life, combining art, activism and public engagement. The installation has already been displayed in 24 cities around the world, inspiring action and sparking dialogue within diverse communities.
This partnership with The Earthshot Prize and the City of Rio reflects what Cool Globes has always been about: bringing people together through art to inspire change.
The Earthshot Boulevard celebrates creativity, community, and the belief that each of us has a role to play in repairing our planet.
Coffee trucks will offer Earthshot Coffee on the boulevard – a regenerative Brazilian brew made from Macaw Coffee sustainable speciality beans, served with Nude’s sustainable oat milk in Notpla (2022 Winner) seaweed coated cups and Klabin recyclable cups. Earthshot Coffee will be accompanied by Dengo chocolate, sourced ethically from local producers.
To celebrate the arrival of The Earthshot Prize in Latin America for the first time – a historic milestone that underscores Brazil’s leadership in the global climate agenda – more than 600 drones will light up Ipanema Beach with a spectacular light show on the evening of 4 November. Brazil, home to more than half of the Amazon and nearly 20% of the world’s biodiversity, holds a central position in the global effort to restore and protect the planet through nature-based solutions.
The partnership with the Eleven Eleven Foundation to transform Rio into the Earthshot City is more than a collaboration, it’s a call to urgent optimism, uniting bold climate leaders and communities to face a powerful opportunity to spark bold dialogues and real climate action. This immersive experience not only inspires debate but also helps drive change ahead of the fifth Earthshot Prize Awards Night. My sincere thanks to Wendy Abrams and the exceptional team at the Eleven Eleven Foundation for their steadfast enduring partnership, and inspiring leadership in bringing this vision to life.
From London to Cape Town, The Earthshot Prize has spotlighted ambitious climate leaders. Now, it arrives in a country full of creativity and urgency, inviting us all to explore, be inspired, and act. Here in Rio, a city of extraordinary natural beauty and cultural vitality, we’re reminded of what’s at stake and what’s possible. Together, we can repair and protect our planet.
We are thrilled to partner with The Earthshot Prize and the Eleven Eleven Foundation to reimagine some of Rio’s most iconic spaces and turn our city into a global symbol of optimism and climate action during the Earthshot Summit.
Hosting the Prize is an opportunity to showcase Rio’s climate leadership, amplify community voices, and connect our young and innovative leaders to global networks.
Designed to mobilise a decade of environmental action, The Earthshot Prize identifies, celebrates, and backs ambitious climate leaders from all corners of the world. From Indigenous communities to city leaders, entrepreneurs, to governments, they are all working together to solve the planet’s greatest challenges.
The Prize awards £1 million annually to each Winner to help advance or replicate their work and recognise their achievement and potential.
