Funding catalysed by The Earthshot Prize and our network in addition to Prize Money

Tonnes of C02e emissions reduced, avoided or captured by Earthshot Prize Finalists
By 2030, the world must reduce CO2 emissions by over 40% and protect 30% of nature, fresh water, and oceans.
Recognising this need, Prince William founded The Earthshot Prize in 2020. In just three years, we’re emerging as a global platform for finding innovators, unlocking funding, accelerating solutions and inspiring optimism.
Our 2024 Impact Report sets out where we are on our decade-long journey.
The success of finding potentially world-changing solutions depends on the quality and quantity of the nominations we receive. In 2021, our first year, we received 750 nominations, increasing to 994 in 2022 and 1,160 in 2023, a 55 per cent uplift.
During this time our global representation has increased year on year, and we have received nominations from 125 countries in total.
To date we have awarded £15m of Prize money to our first three cohorts of Winners. This funding is being used to expand and evolve their existing solutions and fund vital R&D work.
In addition to the annual prize money, we work with our Global Alliance and others to help catalyse funding. Alongside the £15m prize money, The Earthshot Prize and its network has catalysed an additional £50m of funding.
The Earthshot Prize exists to scale innovative solutions that seek to repair and restore the planet.
Many of our Finalists have seen their impact accelerate since receiving support from The Earthshot Prize and its partners, whether it is reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, waste, green jobs created or oceans, rivers and land protected.
The stories of our Finalists, the challenges they face, and their innovative solutions have power beyond the direct impact of these solutions on the climate crisis.
These stories allow us to engage people, in particular young people, and start a movement to change the global narrative to one of hope, of possibility and of urgent optimism across the decade.
