Professor Jonas Gomes da Silva is a Brazilian native living in the Amazon rainforest who has generated a transformative impact across the public, private, and third sectors for 28 years. His mission is to share knowledge and create a positive legacy for humanity and the planet, fully aligned with The Earthshot Prize’s ambitious goals.
He holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Gunma University (Japan) and completed his postdoctoral research in Sustainability at The University of Manchester (UK). He is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM). His expertise spans Total Quality Management (TQM), Strategic Planning, Project Management, and Social Innovation, with a recent focus on Artificial Intelligence, Smart Cities, and Net Zero strategies adopted by leading sustainable cities worldwide.
As a Nominator and member of The Earthshot Prize Expert Advisory Panel, Dr Silva helps to identify, evaluate, and recommend the most promising solutions for restoring the planet. His dedication is demonstrated by more than 17,619 hours of teaching and supervision, research, as well as impactful volunteer work, including projects that have planted 1,000 trees and improved the lives of more than 5,291 people in the Amazon region.
