New documentary ‘The Earthshot Report’ comes to BBC and PBS in December

The Earthshot Report 2024

“The Earthshot Report”, a new documentary showcasing inspiring environmental solutions spotlighted and celebrated by The Earthshot Prize, will premiere exclusively on BBC One and iPlayer at 5pm GMT on Sunday 15th December and on PBS at 8pm ET on Wednesday 18th December.

Hosted by Emmy Award-winning actress Hannah Waddingham and featuring a special introduction from The Prince of Wales, “The Earthshot Report” travels across the globe – from the Western United States to Ecuador, South Africa and the United Kingdom – to explore the inspiring stories of environmental innovators working to deliver solutions which have the power to protect and restore our planet for future generations.

Featuring interviews with current and former Earthshot Finalists and Winners, including Notpla, Amazon Sacred Headwaters, Restor, Mukuru Clean Stoves, and many more, audiences will hear the personal stories of the people behind these innovative solutions and learn about how they are driving progress towards the five ‘Earthshots’: Fix Our Climate, Protect and Restore Nature, Build A Waste-Free World, Revive Our Oceans, and Clean Our Air.

At a time when there is so much pessimism about the environment, ‘The Earthshot Report’ is the dose of urgent optimism we need.

We are proud to be able to amplify the inspiring stories of Earthshot innovators and showcase the growing global movement of climate creativity they are leading. We are honored to collaborate with the BBC and PBS to bring these compelling stories of Earthshot innovators and entrepreneurs to millions of people across the globe.

Founded in 2020 by The Prince of Wales and inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s ‘Moonshot,’ The Earthshot Prize aims to discover, spotlight, and help scale the most impactful solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges. Inspired by the local entrepreneurs and innovators he met on his travels across the globe, His Royal Highness recognised the need to drive greater attention, investment, and awareness in local solutions with the potential for global impact.

Each year, following a rigorous selection process, The Earthshot Prize selects 15 Finalists to participate in a catalytic Fellowship Programme and awards five solutions a £1 million Prize to help accelerate their groundbreaking projects and solutions and awards. The five Winners of the 2024 Earthshot Prize were revealed at a star-studded Awards ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa last month, which was broadcast live across 50 African countries.

In four short years, The Earthshot Prize has awarded £20 million in prize money and helped catalyze over £86 million in direct and in-kind support for 60 Prize Winners and Finalists. More than 4,000 environmental solutions are part of the broader pipeline of environmental solutions within our network, identified with the support of 435 Official Nominators around the world.

Collectively, Earthshot alumni from 2021-2023 have reduced, avoided, or captured 420,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions—equivalent to taking around 100,000 cars off the road for one year—and protected and restored 170,000 square kilometers of land and ocean, an area the size of Ireland and Iceland combined.
