The ocean covers 70% of our planet and supports most life on Earth. It’s a vital home for marine wildlife and a resource that we, in turn, depend on for jobs, food and climate stability.
But our seas are under growing pressure. Rising temperatures, pollution and overfishing are pushing ocean life and coastal communities to the brink. The 30×30 goal to protect 30% of land and sea by 2030 is our biggest opportunity to reverse this damage. With just 3% of the ocean currently protected, urgent action is needed.
The Earthshot Prize exists to spotlight and support solutions that repair our planet. ‘Revive Our Oceans’ is a core category, yet we receive fewer nominations here than in any other, and many ocean innovators still face real barriers to funding and scale.
That’s why this June, we’re joining world leaders and changemakers at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum and the UN Ocean Conference to help drive progress on ocean investment. Because, as our Finalists show, with the right backing, local solutions can deliver global change.
Discover the stories behind the incredible Finalists helping our oceans thrive again.
Across the globe, Earthshot Prize Finalists are proving that local innovation, when properly supported, can deliver powerful solutions for our ocean. From reef restoration to sustainable fishing, these projects are already making a difference — protecting marine life and strengthening the communities that depend on healthy seas.
Whether it’s Coral Vita restoring vital coral reefs, ABALOBI supporting small-scale fishers in South Africa, or Pristine Seas, WildAid and HAC driving the creation and protection of Marine Protected Areas worldwide, our Finalists show that when innovation is backed by investment and rooted in local action, it can deliver global impact for our ocean.
To protect our ocean and secure a healthier future for people and planet, we need bold investment and support for the communities on the frontlines who are most exposed to the challenges and most connected to the solutions.
We must act now, with urgency and optimism, to turn the tide.
