This November, we are bringing our annual celebration to South Africa for the first time!
Taking place across five days of landmark events, Earthshot Week 2024 will spotlight groundbreaking environmental solutions and bring together world-leading innovators, investors and philanthropists to drive forward the restoration and protection of our planet.
Earthshot Week will centre around our Awards Ceremony in Cape Town on Wednesday 6 November — an evening of extraordinary storytelling and star-studded performances. Here, we will celebrate the work of this year’s fifteen Finalists, with five Winners each being awarded £1 million (R23,800,000) to scale their solutions.
The ceremony will be followed by Earthshot+, a day of thought-provoking conversations aimed at multiplying the impact of The Earthshot Prize Winners and Finalists.
Our partnership with MultiChoice will also provide a platform to African Youth Creators to spotlight and celebrate African solutions and the people behind them.
Despite contributing the least to global warming and having the lowest emissions, Africa is the most vulnerable continent to the impacts of climate change.
In 2022 alone, more than 110 million people across Africa were directly affected by weather, climate, and water-related hazards according to the WMO.
Yet in the face of these challenges, nearly all African countries have committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions and building resilience.
And with nearly 400 nominees for this year’s Prize based in Africa, it is clear the continent has the trailblazing creativity and innovation needed to make a significant impact.
