This week during London Climate Action Week, we officially announce that the 2025 Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony will be held on November 5 at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro.

This will be the first time the Prize will be held in Latin America, a historic milestone that reinforces Brazil’s prominence on the global climate agenda. In November, the country will also host COP30 in Belém, solidifying its role as a central voice in addressing the environmental challenges of this decade.

The Museum of Tomorrow is the perfect home for The Earthshot Prize and our mission of urgency and optimism for the planet.

We will stage an awards ceremony this year that will supercharge the efforts of our fifteen 2025 finalists and celebrate Brazil’s global climate and nature leadership.

It’s going to be the best instalment yet of the world’s most prestigious and impactful environment prize.

Ahead of the awards in November, Rio de Janeiro’s Mayor Eduardo Paes and Ricardo Piquet, Director-General of the Museum of Tomorrow will join events this week organized by The Earthshot Prize in London for London Climate Action Week.

The Earthshot Prize will be hosting a number of events, including one featuring an on stage conversation between Mayor Paes and London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan to explain the long-lasting positive impact that The Earthshot Prize made in London when it played host to the inaugural Prize in 2021.

It is a great privilege for Rio to host the Earthshot Prize — for the first time in Latin America. This prestigious initiative plays a crucial role in turning climate solutions into reality, offering not only funding but also global visibility and strategic support to local projects.

Hosting the Earthshot Prize is an opportunity to showcase Rio’s climate leadership, amplify community voices, and connect our innovators and young leaders to global networks. It also helps attract vital resources to scale solutions that can benefit not only Rio, but cities worldwide, reinforcing Rio’s role in global climate innovation.

Brazil, home to more than half of the Amazon Rainforest and nearly 20% of the world’s biodiversity, plays a strategic and symbolic role in this new phase. The award’s ceremony in Rio de Janeiro will take place just days before COP30 in Belém, further strengthening Brazil’s leadership in the global environmental agenda.

The choice of the Museum of Tomorrow as the venue for the ceremony symbolizes the Earthshot Prize’s commitment to innovation, science, and solutions for the future.

“The Museum of Tomorrow and the Earthshot Prize share a common vision of the future and a strong alignment of values. For a decade, we’ve worked to inspire solutions to climate change through science, dialogue, and innovation. Being chosen to host this year’s Earthshot Prize is a powerful recognition of the impact we’ve achieve.”

Ricardo Piquet, CEO of IDG – Museum of Tomorrow

Broadcast by Globo, Earthshot Prize’s official partner in Brazil, the ceremony will bring together international leaders, innovators, scientists, philanthropists, and civil society representatives to recognize transformative and scalable environmental solutions. Each of the five winners will receive a £1 million prize in one of five Earthshot categories: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean the Air, Revive the Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Tackle the Climate Crisis.

The Earthshot Prize was created with a clear mission: to identify and accelerate solutions with the potential to restore the planet by 2030. Its work is guided by the belief that urgency + optimism = action, and it is this message that the Prize will bring to London Climate Action Week this year. Events will focus on inspiring climate leadership, connecting the individuals leading the way with finance to scale their solutions, and convening members of the Brazilian and global community on the journey to Rio and Belem.

With the announcement of the date and location, and the strengthening of local partnerships, The Earthshot Prize officially begins its countdown to Rio de Janeiro, with the goal of mobilizing investments, concrete actions, and visibility for transformative environmental solutions – now with Brazil at the center of this journey.
