The Earthshot Prize, the world’s most prestigious and impactful environmental Prize, has announced that Brazilian broadcaster Luciano Huck will host its 5th annual Awards Ceremony, to be held on 5 November at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro.

The announcement was made by Huck himself during his show Domingão com Huck on Sunday, 7th September.

Widely recognised as one of the most influential figures on Brazilian television, Luciano Huck has received numerous awards including Best Presenter, which he won for eight consecutive years. He has also been recognised for his philanthropic work, notably by BrazilFoundation, for empowering youth through education and sustainability. This combination shows his longstanding role as a broadcaster with a deep commitment to social and environmental causes.

He spent over two decades hosting the popular Saturday show Caldeirão do Huck, before taking over Domingão com Huck in 2021, which airs every Sunday afternoon on TV Globo to audiences of over 30 million per episode. Luciano is known for his incredible ability to simplify complex messages and translate topics that would otherwise be restricted to specialists so that they can be understood by the entire Brazilian population.

Alongside the announcement on Domingão com Huck, Luciano also shared a special phone call between himself and Global Ambassadors of The Earthshot Prize, Nomzamo Mbatha and Robert Irwin to his social media channels. International supporters, such as David Beckham and Cate Blanchett, also took part in the video, speaking with optimism and enthusiasm about the upcoming edition in Brazil.

It is an honour to host The Earthshot Prize in Brazil. The Prize inspires, celebrates, and proves that solutions to the planet’s greatest challenges already exist, and I am delighted to be hosting this incredible event.

The Earthshot Prize will showcase to the world the creativity, energy, and potential of both Brazilian and global initiatives working towards a more sustainable future.

The 2025 Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony will bring together global leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, and activists to celebrate 15 Finalists and announce the five Winners, each of whom will receive £1 million (around R$ 7.3 million) to help advance or replicate their work and recognise their achievement and potential.

The Prize categories are: Protect and Restore Nature; Clean Our Air; Revive Our Oceans; Build a Waste-Free World; and Fix Our Climate.

We’re thrilled to confirm Luciano as a host. Luciano is the perfect choice, as someone who is deeply engaged in optimistic causes that are helping to save our planet and as a highly respected personality across Brazil and Latin America.

The Prize amplifies incredible climate leadership to as many people as possible, and Luciano’s profile and credibility will ensure we capture the attention and imagination of a huge audience.

The Earthshot Prize legacy

The 2025 Earthshot Prize edition received a record-breaking 2,426 global nominations, including 232 headquartered in Brazil and 316 in South America, highlighting the region’s growing role in the environmental solutions ecosystem. Over half of the nominated solutions (52.12%) are based in the Global South, and 18.4% are led by local and Indigenous communities – 542 in total.

Founded by HRH Prince William in 2020, The Earthshot Prize has already awarded over £20 million (around R$ 146.4 million) in prize grants and supported more than 60 Finalists and Winners around the world, helping to scale transformative initiatives that are working to repair and regenerate the planet.

Previous editions of the Prize have taken place in London, Boston, Singapore, and most recently, Cape Town. This year marks the first time the ceremony will be held in Latin America, placing Brazil at the heart of the global climate agenda in a landmark year that also includes COP30 in Belém, Pará.

The fifth cohort of Finalists for The Earthshot Prize will be announced in the coming weeks, along with international public figures and major musical performances.

The ceremony will be broadcast live by media partner Grupo Globo and streamed globally via The Earthshot Prize’s official YouTube channel. The broadcast is expected to air during primetime local time (GMT-3) and run approximately 90 minutes. Further details will be shared soon.
