Counting the collective impact of our 2021 Finalists

When creating The Earthshot Prize in 2020 to repair and regenerate the planet, we asked ourselves the question:

“With so much to be done, how can we make a significant difference?”

The answer was to be laser-focused on supporting incredible environmental innovators from around the world to scale their solutions and accelerate their impact.

In 2021, our first-ever Finalists and Winners were announced and it’s fair to say they’ve been pretty busy since!

Here is their collective impact in numbers:

Over 35,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions have been reduced, avoided or sequestered

Over 70,000 hectares of land have been protected or restored

Almost 2.1 million hectares of ocean have been protected or restored

Over 1.5 million people have benefited directly from the Finalist solitions

Over 40,000 tonnes of waste have been removed, upcycled or avoided

And that’s only the start!

Fresh from the Fellowship Retreat in January, our 2022 Finalists are tirelessly scaling the impact of their own work, and with nominations for 2023 being assessed as we speak we cannot wait to see what this year brings.
