From bustling cities in South Africa and Kenya to the lush landscapes of Zambia and Botswana, these solutions go beyond repairing and restoring the planet—they are actively shaping its future.
This year, The Earthshot Prize set out to capture this spirit of transformation. Partnering with African production companies Crtve Development and Bad Mama Jama Films, we launched ‘Africa Innovates‘ – a campaign to highlight the work of 15 extraordinary African innovators.
Filmed and photographed by local creatives, their stories explore not just the solutions but the incredible people and communities behind them. From the innovators designing and implementing these ideas to the lives they transform, the stunning imagery highlights the profound impact of collaboration and community.

In 2024 alone, nearly 400 nominees for The Earthshot Prize were based in Africa, with more than 750 nominees in total actively delivering impact in the region, highlighting the continent’s incredible range of talent and ideas.
These innovators come from diverse backgrounds and sectors, including for-profit enterprises, non-profit organisations, individuals, and public initiatives. It’s inspiring to see many of these efforts are led by women and indigenous communities—a testament to the rich diversity driving positive changes across Africa.
